Nesting Time

With less than two months till Ivy's debut, and a 32 week sonogram that confirmed that she is 100% a girl, I've kicked it into nesting gear. I've had so much fun making stuff, I feel bad for Elijah, who didn't get anything made by mom. Of course I was working at the time and hadn't really gotten into crafting because of that. So far I've knitted her this hat:

I've also been putting the sewing machine my mom gave me for Christmas to use, making this Black Apple Doll:

And this nursing blanket:

I'd seen one like this and figured out how to make it. Basically it's just two pieces of fabric sewn together with a strap and corset boning across the top, so you can look down and see your baby while you nurse. It took me about an hour and they sell for $30-50.

In all the ambition, I have decided to make a diaper bag since the one we have now barely fits Elijah's stuff. Lindsay gave me Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones for my birthday, so I found a nice pattern in there for this bag and found this nice butterfly fabric online:

We don't need much in the way of baby gear this time. Ryan's brother and sister in law passed on lots of baby girl clothes for Christmas. We decided not to get a new crib, but we're not kicking Elijah out of his either. He loves it too much. He goes to his crib several times a day and lets me know he wants in. He'll just roll around and talk to himself for 20-30 minutes and he's happy. So we're putting Ivy in the bassinet of our pack n' play to start.

We are trying to get Elijah used to the idea of a new baby. We got a picture book about it, and we show him the pictures and talk about it. I don't know if he understand at all, but he likes looking at the pictures. He does like being around other kids. After two months, he's finally doing well in nursery. We go to the library read & plays at least once a week, and we started a playgroup with several of the moms and kids we've met there.

He just still seems like a baby in so many ways. He still isn't talking. He can say several words, and will copy us a lot, but most of the time he just chooses not to. I'm trying to get him to walk or crawl up and down the steps by himself, although he often begs for a free ride on my hip. I've heard a lot about how difficult the transition from one to two is from friends who have gone through it, so we're a little nervous. But mostly we're excited to meet this new little person.

Wow you have been busy! Everything looks great. I cant wait to see the finished diaper bag. OH and every one always compliments the blanket that you made for us. I use it a lot whenever we go out for covering the carseat and also for him to lay on. Thanks again for that and keep up the good work with your sewing!

Wow, you are so gifted. I love that doll. Now Eva saw it and wants one too :)
I wanted to comment on the crib thingie.. I think you should try to keep Elijah in his crib for as long as possible. I found that they sleep better in the crib and bedtime problems develop when you switch from crib to regular bed. The pack'n'play still works with our 10-month old.
